Retired postal worker died from hypothermia, ruled accidental

SPOKANE -- The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office said a Spokane Valley man who had been missing for a week died from hypothermia.

Samuel H. Counts’ death was ruled accidental Monday.

Counts disappeared Nov. 23 while driving to the grocery store. He suffered from dementia.

Search crews located his car, a 2012 KIA sedan, behind Mt. Spokane in a heavily wooded area Nov. 30. His body was found in the general vicinity a short time after.

Counts was a retired postal worker. He lived with his wife in Spokane Valley.
