SPOKANE, Wash.--Local authorities are increasing patrols at area parks to combat growing crime. The Spokane Police Department released a list Friday of crime hot spots. Seven area parks made the list.

Parks with the largest increases in calls for police service are Dutch Jakes, Hillyard Skate Park, Riverfront, Manito, Mission, Shadle Park near the pool, and the Hillyard Aquatic Center.

Police said they are constantly tracking those hotspots and adjust their patrols accordingly.

“Just having that presence there of someone that's watching over the kids, making sure that things are safe,” said park visitor Shelly Rogers.

Authorities respond frequently to Dutch Jakes Mini Park despite the park being one of the smallest parks in the City.

Police across the area are stepping up their efforts to make sure visitors can still enjoy their summer. Officers said be cracking down on speeders and distracted drivers too.

“We want to make sure the kids do have fun and that they get home safe,” said Deputy Craig Chamberlin.

Speed limits decrease to 20 miles per hour near parks during the summer. Authorities enforce those areas just like school zones. Fines can go up to $700.
