SPOKANE, Wash. - Firefighters quickly knocked down an early morning house fire in Hillyard.

A neighbor reported smoke coming from the house around 5:15 a.m. Monday at 2211 East Euclid west of Andrew Rypien Field.

Firefighters found the front and back doors padlocked when they arrived.  They broke open the locks and found no one inside.

Neighbors told KREM 2 News nobody lived at the house.

Firefighters had to rip open part of the roof to fight the fire.  They had it knocked down in ten minutes.

Firefighters said it started in a back room of the house and then spread to the attic.

Avista crews showed up to make sure the power was off, but they found it had already been shut off since the house was abandoned.

Euclid is closed to traffic between Lee and Stone while crews clean up the scene.
