COEUR D’ALENE--A new North Idaho program is helping veterans struggling with life back home after combat.

One out of every four homeless people are veterans.  The Helped by the Guardians Foundation is helping these veterans by providing them with shelter and even jobs in some cases.

The program’s been around for nine months and was started by veteran Michael Shaw.

The foundation has homes in Post Falls, Kootenai and Coeur d’Alene where several families can stay for free at once.

The group currently helps vets from St. Maries to the northern part of the panhandle, but they would like to expand to Spokane.
