COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -- Gun advocates in North Idaho are planning a rally and encouraging participants to openly carry weapons as allowed by Idaho law.

The National Gun Appreciation Day event is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Black Sheep Sporting Goods in Coeur d'Alene.  It’s part of a larger, national movement designed to send a message to Congress and the president.

Organizers say guest speakers include state lawmakers like Idaho State Senator Steve Vick and State Representatives Ron Mendive and Vito Barbieri.

A local group called “Oath Keepers” is helping put on the event.  The group is made up of military members and police interested in making sure current elected officials understand the Constitution.
