SPOKANE COUNTY -- Local law enforcement agencies have teamed up to add more resources to the regional gang unit task force.

Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich said gang members should get out of the area or expect to be forced out.

Local authorities said they responded to several gang-related shootings in the last few weeks, including one outside the Knitting Factory in downtown Spokane.

Spokane County will unite with Spokane Police to investigate gang-related crimes because the violence is often connected.

“Gang members may live in the county and commit their crimes in the city and vise versa. Those are the reasons we really need to take a look at the current model we have in reference to gang enforcement and I think we need to revamp that,” Knezovich said.

A deputy specially designed to gangs will soon be on every shift, which is something both agencies had in the past.
