TEKOA, Wash. -- Ce’nedra Thomas does not just live in her community. She works to lift her community.’

Thomas, a senior at Tekoa High School, is our pick for Sterling Bank Hero of the Month. The award helps us recognize young people making a difference.

Thomas is Student Body President and a National Honor Society member. She helped run the Tekoa food drive and serves as a peer mentor, guiding students transitioning to the high school

Ce’nedra also spends time with a kids club, providing a safe environment for young children. She has a family member who is deaf so she set out to learn American Sign Language and teaches it to pre school-aged children.

Teacher Lyle Wagner is impressed -- not just with Ce’nedra’s long list of accomplishments -- but with her attitude.

"She's genuine, real, courteous, dependable, and respectful -- the list could go on and on," Wagner told KREM 2 News.

Ce’nedra doesn’t take all of the credit. She is quick to point out support from her family, and says the community inspires her to want to help.

"I'm just willing to give back to the community that's given so much to me," she said.

Congratulations to Ce’nedra, the February 2013 Hero of the Month.
