AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. -- Fairchild Airforce Base remembered those who lost their lives as a result of the September 11th attacks in a brief ceremony late Wednesday afternoon.

Air Force base commanders joined airmen and local Spokane County law enforcement and firefighters to honor the 2,973 men and women and children who lost their lives on the morning of September 11th, 2001.

“The scars on that day will not be forgotten,” said Fairchild AFB Chaplain Jeffrey Solheim, in prayer during the ceremony.  “Lord we humbly acknowledge that freedom is a gift from your very hand, but to this day, there are those who threaten this gift through brutality and tyranny.”

The base also paid tribute to the one and a half million service members who have served after 9/11 and the more than 6,100 who paid the ultimate price for freedom.
