COEUR D’ALENE -- At least18,000 voters in Kootenai County took advantage of early voting for the November 6 election, although elections officials are still counting ballots that came in Monday.

In 2008, there were 22,000 early voters.

Elections officials expect the final early voting count to be about 20,000, and said it could be an indicator of good overall voter turnout.

Voter turnout in May’s primary was 23% in Kootenai County.
