COEUR D'ALENE -- There are new details surrounding a mother accused of leaving her two young boys on the side of Interstate 90 in October.

Investigators said Shannon Duval left her sons along the highway near Post Falls for several hours.  Duval is in the Kootenai County Jail on two felony injury to a child charges.

Court documents revealed what investigators found that night.  A construction worker found the boys, ages six and three, sitting less than 20 feet from the Interstate.  They were hungry, wet and cold.  The documents revealed the brothers were wearing only thin sweatshirts and jeans with holes.  The six-year-old had just one shoe and no socks.  The three-year-old did not have any shoes or socks on his feet.

The boys told deputies that their mother left to go get gasoline.  According to police reports, that may have not been her intent.  After getting a ride to a gas station, the driver reported that Duval left the scene.  The driver also told police that Duval never mentioned anything about leaving her children behind.

Investigators eventually picked Duval up at her Spokane Valley apartment.  She told investigators that she was suffering from amnesia and that she woke up in a motel room with no memory of what happened.  She never asked investigators about her children.  Detectives said she admitted to recently using methamphetamine, but she had been drug free for at least a couple of days.

Records show both boys remain in protective custody.  Duval is due in court on the charges next week.
