SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. -- Students at a north Spokane County private school are getting to play football for the first time.
On Friday, the boys at Northwest Christian High School got a chance to hit the field against other eastern Washington teams. The team said they are already having a lot of fun being the first team the school has ever seen.
Lind, Washington hosted a practice game that gets players acquainted with others and helps them practice some plays. This is the team’s first time playing against real opponents on the field.
“They’re tired of hitting each other. I would like to see how they measure up against somebody else. Probably some of them are a little fearful,” said Coach Jim Nendel.
Nendel said the school decided over the last few years to start a football program and most of the team has never played before. The team has all new uniforms and Whitworth University donated practice equipment.
The team’s first real game of the season will be next Friday night against Liberty.
