COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -- A man used a knife to threaten officers once they confronted him about setting fire to a construction trailer, according to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department.
It started around 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the 2000 block of North Kootenai Health Way.
Coeur d’Alene and Kootenai County firefighters arrived to find a trailer fully engulfed in flames. They quickly contained the fire, but not before flames damaged a second trailer.
A woman living nearby told police she saw a man acting suspiciously near the trailers shortly before the fire started. As she spoke to investigators, she noticed the man standing next to the firefighters watching the fire.
Officers immediately began to question Clark E. Richman, 43.
Police say he became combative and pulled out a 3 inch knife from his pocket. Richman eventually complied with officers after repeated attempts to drop the knife and surrender. He allegedly kicked an officer in the knee as they escorted him to the patrol car.
The suspect is charged with second-degree arson, aggravated assault and battery on a police officer.
