SPOKANE, Wash.-- One Hoopfest team is hoping to take home a title this weekend for the third year in a row.
The fifth grade girls have made a clean sweep the past two years.
The ‘Spokane Stars’ said they plan to win every single game Saturday and Sunday. They came in second two years ago after losing two games. It is the only two games they’ve ever lost in the tournament.
"My favorite part about Hoopfest is winning because when you win you feel good about yourself and that you did a good job with your team,” said Spokane Star player Christelle Simpson.
The players said they are confident they will win this year, but admit there is some steep competition. The girls are part of a larger AAU team. This year, they have to play another Hoopfest team made up of their fellow AAU teammates.
Beyond Hoopfest, the girls said they are excited to head to Florida later this summer to play in the national championships.
