SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- A local medical marijuana dispensary planned to re-open this month after moving to a new location, but packed up on Thursday instead. Owners of Treehouse Medical Marijuana Dispensary said a zoning restriction forced them to change plans.

Treehouse employees were ready for business Thursday morning at their location off of Broadway and Thierman. The owners said that they later closed up after finding out they needed to be in a retail zone.

Spokane Valley leaders said the heavy industrial zone where Treehouse was located cannot have retail sales. A business must make or produce what they want to sell on site in the industrial area according to zone rules.

Treehouse left its first location in Spokane Valley after the Drug Enforcement Administration told the owners to close a couple years ago. Owners said they have found a new location to move into that will meet the zoning regulations required so they can provide medical marijuana.
