SPOKANE-- A man who witnessed the beating of Otto Zehm says he's not surprised at the verdict.

The Spokane man was called to testify in federal court exactly what he saw that night.

We hear there's going to be a small gathering here at the zip trip here on division.

Michael Dahl was in the Zip Trip that night buying motor oil when he caught the commotion.

Dahl told KREM 2’s Othello Richards he thought Thompson was guilty all along and that justice was served.

He said that he feel’s that way because what the police officer did to Otto Zehm was “excessive”.

Dahl says he remembers turning around seeing the altercation between the police officer and Zehm. He saw them struggling and Zehm trying to protect himself from getting beaten.

“I heard a command when he was already on the ground” said Dahl.
