Pullman, WA -- Construction starts next week to expand Ferdinand’s Ice Cream Shoppe on the Washington State University campus.
The project will add about 300 square feet of retail space to the store. Crews plan to enclose the outside patio for the expansion. They’ll also update the interior with new floors, walls, and a full-length bar. Crews also plan to relocate the ice cream counters and display cases. Supervisors say the changes will improve customer flow and streamline operations.
“During extra-busy days, like home football game days, we have long lines because of the cramped arrangement,” said supervisor Eric Needham. “We are optimistic that moving our ice cream cases and cash registers will make a more streamlined operation and enable us to move customers through the line more quickly.”
Officials plan to keep Ferdinand’s open Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. However, the shop will be closed during WSU’s spring break, March 11-15. Supervisors plan to be back in business Monday, March 18.
The WSU Creamery’s ice cream and cheese sales are paying for the expansion. Construction should be completed June fifth.
