SPOKANE -- Tuesday is distribution day for Tom's Turkey Drive! The Salvation Army in North Spokane has 8,200 of the donated turkey dinners to give out to people in need.
If you'd like a meal, head to the Salvation Army at 222 East Indiana between 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Make sure you have your picture ID, proof of residence and proof of any children who will be receiving the meal.
The rest of the meals donated by our generous viewers have been spread among food banks to help people in some of the outlying areas who may not be able to get to the Salvation Army. You can contact your local food pantry for information on that, but note, the Salvation Army location is the largest distribution center of the Thanksgiving meals.
The Inland Northwest stepped up in a huge way for the 10th anniversary of Tom's Turkey Drive by exceeding a record goal of 10,000 turkey dinners donated to the less fortunate in our local communities.
The community donated 11,092 turkeys to families across the Inland Northwest on Friday and Saturday -- that's more than 1,000 turkeys over our goal of 10,000.
Early estimations for how much money was donated tops $90,000. All that money goes to the Second Harvest Food Bank. That money will go to feed the hungry in our area over the next few months.
The event was made possible thanks to Rosauers, Numerica Credit Union, Downtown Auto Group, 93.7 the Cat and 2nd Harvest Food Bank.
