AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash.--Spokane Tribal leaders blamed a fuel distributor Tuesday night for a gas mix-up at Spoko Fuel.

Nearby mechanics said they helped drivers who filled up their gas tanks at Spoko Fuel. Mechanics said that it appears the Spoko Fuel gas tanks meant for unleaded gas were actually filled with diesel.

The gas station stopped selling gas Tuesday when operators became away of the issue. Tribal leaders said the fuel distributor, R.E. Powell, should be done decontaminating the tanks by late Tuesday night.

“R.E. Powell has accepted responsibility for the contamination,” wrote Tribal leaders in a statement released Tuesday.

Customers who were impacted are asked to call R.E. Powell’s Insurance Agent Jill Peruca. She can be reached at 1-800-488-2869 x 445 to initiate a claim.
