SPOKANE, Wash. -- Three local design firms were up for the job of completing the Spokane Convention Center. On Tuesday, the Spokane Facilities District announced the winner.
Garco Construction will be the design group for completing the Convention Center. Garco also built the Spokane Arena nearly 20 years ago,
The district said by the time the group is done with the Convention Center there should be a seamless transition between the exhibit hall and the Spokane River.
"There's quite a bit more space. They've added a bunch of exhibit space. Quite a nice new junior ballroom. 10 new meeting rooms and fantastic connections to the river, " said CEO of the Public Facilities District, Kevin Twohig.
The board spent two full weeks analyzing the three different proposals and took into account the public's feedback.
The district is still working on the contract with Garco but the district hopes to be in the ground by August and the Convention Center should be completed by December 2014.
