SPOKANE -- Major Crimes Investigators are searching for at least two suspects who shot at a police cruiser in a stolen vehicle.

Police say just after 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, a woman was warming her Suburban in the driveway on the 1600 East Rowan.  When she went back inside her home, at least two suspects got into her vehicle and dove it away.

A patrol officer maintaining perimeter security in the area of West Frederick and Madison saw the stolen Suburban drive past him.  He followed the suspects, and while waiting for backup, the vehicle pulled over and a passenger fired several rounds at the patrol car.  At least one bullet hit the cruiser.  The officer was not injured and the vehicle took off.

Patrol officers responded quickly and located the abandoned stolen Suburban at Dalton and Lincoln.  Police have not found the suspects.

Earlier in the morning at 4:40 a.m., a woman was inside her car on the 1100 block of East Sanson.  She was approached by male suspects who smashed the driver's side window trying to steal her car.  They attacked her with the grip of the gun.  But she was able to drive away suffering minor injuries.

Investigators do not know if the both vehicle thefts are connected to a shooting that happened late Tuesday night near the intersection of West Frederick and Madison.
