AIRWAY HEIGHTS--Many of us refer to our dogs as part of the family and that couldn't be any truer for one local cancer survivor.
18-year-old Daniel Swanson says his service dog at Fairchild Air Force Base has quickly become his new best friend.
Swanson overcame brain cancer as a kid, but still has hearing and vision issues. That’s where Sprock the Service Dog comes in. Sprock was raised in Georgia by the Canine Assistants Organization and recently donated to Swanson.
The donation was made possible by the Defense Commissary Agency as well as Del Monte foods.
It takes up to two years to train each dog, with costs totaling close to $20,000.
Swanson’s dad is a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force and says he’s grateful for the support his son has received.
