Police searching for third suspect in West Central burglary

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Police arrested two men for residential burglary near Maxwell and Maple just before 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Officials said a third man escaped.

Officials said three men broke into a West Central home and two women in the home called police. Authorities said the burglars were threatening to kill the occupants. The burglars deployed a fire extinguisher according to authorities. Neither of the residents were hurt.

A woman who lives in the neighborhood says the area is no stranger to trouble.

"We thought we heard a gun shot and we got out of bed and saw three guys running between the apartment and our house. A police officer told them to stop but they took off," said Kandi Smith.

Police responded and said they heard a loud bang and saw three people run out the back door. Police chased the three suspects down the block and caught two of them. Alexander Vanzandt, 23, and Jory Vallee, 24 were arrested and a third person escaped according to authorities.

Police added that they saw no evidence of a gunshots previously reported and think it may have been related to the fire extinguisher being deployed.

Police described the missing suspect as a Native American male wearing a black t-shirt, grey shorts, and a large black backpack.
