SPOKANE, Wash. -- A man’s friend tried to dismember his body after fatally shooting him in the head, according to investigators.
Police identified the victim as Dylan Heinen. The Spokane County Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on Heinen on Tuesday afternoon. Results showed that the 19-year-old died from a gunshot wound to the head.
It happened just before 5 a.m. on Tuesday morning in the 4800 block of North Lincoln in north Spokane.
Police said a witness called 911 an hour after the shooting to report one of his friends shot another friend. Officers say a man with blood on his feet answered the door when they arrived. They walked in to find the victim, a 19-year-old man, dead.
Officers arrested Jeremy McVicker, 19, for the crime. Police said McVicker accidentally shot the victim and tried to dismember the body with a hatchet to conceal the crime.
"It's such a foreign concept to us, not only to accidentally shoot your friend, but then go through the exercise of dismembering them with a hatchet. It's very tragic," said Ofc. Jennifer DeRuwe with the Spokane Police Department.
McVicker faces first-degree manslaughter charges in court on Wednesday. Investigators pulled evidence from the home and found the murder weapon.
Authorities believe the man who called 911 and a woman were in the house during the shooting. Officers questioned and released both people.
