MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. -- A man from Medical Lake is preparing to travel to Moore, Oklahoma on Wednesday after learning his niece is one of the young children killed in a deadly tornado.
Dan Strickland learned Tuesday that the tornado killed his niece on Monday.
Emily Strickland, 8, was one of the kids who died when the tornado smashed into Plaza Towers Elementary School. Emily lived in Moore with her mother and sister according to Dan. He said Emily looked forward to learning how to swim from him.
"She was too young for this, she didn't even get to live life," said Dan. "She was an outgoing, fun little kid, you know, loved unicorns."
He told KREM 2 News that his other niece, Luci, was injured and hospitalized.
A spaghetti feed is scheduled for Friday, May 24th to benefit the Strickland family. The fundraiser will be held at Picnic Pines in Medical Lake. The event starts at noon.
Three businesses in Medical Lake will also accept donations for the Strickland family. You can donate at the Wagon Wheel, Denny’s, and Picnic Pines. Donations can also be made online by clicking here.
