SPOKANE, Wash .-- The man accused of murdering his pregnant girlfriend in 2004 spoke to KREM 2 News about his new trial.
John Lipinski was granted a new trial because in his first one jury selection was not open to the public. Lipinski said he is grateful for a second chance to clear his name.
Lipinski was found guilty of killing his pregnant girlfriend, Mellissa Saldivar, and their unborn baby in 2005.
Lipinski said when he found out about the new trial it was “Overwhelming. Things happen for a reason.”
He did not want to comment about specifics on the case but he said he is eager for another shot to tell his side of the story.
Lipinski will be back in court in January for a pre-trial conference. His trial is set for February 3, 2014.
