LIBERTY LAKE, Wash.--A massive garage burned to the ground early Tuesday morning in Liberty Lake.

It sparked around 6:00 a.m. in a wooded area on Red Feather Lane.

When crews arrived they could see flames shooting from the detached garage. Neighbors do not know exactly how long the garage was burning before it was noticed.

Steve Legault and his wife Kenna woke up to the continuous bark of their pitbull-lab mix. They said it is not unusal for their one-year-old puppy.

“She barked probably for  a good half hour trying to calm her down. Then I heard something, told steve ‘can you get up and check,’” said Kenna.

When the couple got up, they saw the garage next door was on fire.

Steve ran to the neighbor’s house and woke them up. The Legaults are glad their dog has a good sense for danger.

“That darn dog, she's gonna have hero status for the rest of her life,” said Steve.

Firefighters said nobody was hurt. Three people in a nearby home were evacuated safely.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
