SPOKANE -- Arrests kept staff at the Spokane County Jail busy for the third year Christmas in a row.

Officers arrested 25 people on Christmas across Spokane. Yet, that's a decrease from last Christmas. Jail records showed that police arrested 27 people on the same day in 2011. The number of jail bookings increased each year between 2009 and 2011.

Jail staff said they typically receive more DUI and domestic violence inmates during a holiday period.

"You bring people together and everyone is in the same area for a long period of time. Times are tough out there right now," said Lt. Jay Hughes of the Spokane County Jail.

Arrests traditionally increase on Thanksgiving too in Spokane County. Authorities booked more than 200 people into the Spokane County Jail during the Thanksgiving weekend in November.
