NINE MILE FALLS, Wash. -- Local shooters are looking to raise money to support a Coeur d'Alene soldier who was wounded in Afghanistan this year.  Sgt. Dan Guererro was on duty when a bullet tore through his right arm.

For event organizer Jeff Hohenthal, the day his friend, Sgt. Guererro, was wounded in Afghanistan was a day he'll never forget.

"For my wife and I, this is the first time it's really hit home,” Hohenthal said.  “Somebody this close, having it happen."

Guererro survived, but has since required several surgeries and will never have full use of his right arm again.  Now, Guererro's family has moved from Coeur d'Alene to Texas as he continues to recover there.

That prompted Hohenthal to try and help the family out with their expenses.

"I took my love of hunting and shooting and everything else and combined it with barbeque, which everyone is a fan of,” said Hohenthal.  “And it just kind of came together."

The Guns and Grub fundraiser was born. Local shooters will come together to shoot clay pigeons
and eat barbeque on September 28th at the Landt Farms Sporting Clays in Nine Mile Falls.  All of the money will go towards supporting St. Guererro’s family.
