MANSON, Wash. (AP) -- Firefighters have significantly reduced the possibility that a wildfire burning near Manson could threaten structures.
Fire managers said Monday that firefighters met or exceeded goals on Sunday and the fire is 50 percent contained.
Fire broke out Thursday and has burned more than 3 square miles of grass, brush and scattered trees on private and Forest Service land above the north shore of Lake Chelan. Authorities say the fire was human-caused.
Nearly 100 firefighters have been demobilized to make them available for other fires. About 230 remain on the scene, with help from three helicopters, which have been dipping water from Lake Chelan.
A Level 1 evacuation notice was issued for residents of two neighborhoods in Manson plus the Antilon Lake Campground, meaning they should be aware of the danger.
