POST FALLS, ID-- As far back as last October, court documents say former employees at Apply 2 Save were splitting off and starting their own loan modification companies.

One of those former employees says he was trying to do a better job than Apply 2 Save, only to have his business shutdown. The company was Aps Northwest Idaho, known online as Homemodifier.com. That was before the company was evicted. According to the property manager, it wasn’t for failing to pay rent, it was for complaints from Homemodifier’s customers.

Up until a few months ago, a now empty office space is where hundreds of loan modification account were agreed on. Two of the men behind Homemodifier, Clint Paulsen and Randy Allen, worked at Apply 2 Save. In fact, Apply 2 Save sued Paulsen and Allen last October for stealing confidential information and business. The suit was eventually settled.

Apply 2 Save is already in trouble with the state of Idaho and Federal Trade Commission for allegedly taking money from homeowners up front, saying it would renegotiate mortgages on the verge of foreclosure, and then not following through.

Homemodifier had 8 complaints with the Better Business Bureau. Late Tuesday, KREM 2 News talked to Clint Paulson. He couldn’t speak for his business partners, but says Homemodifier was doing good work and would have been in good shape. But the companies that processed customer credit card transactions stopped doing business, cutting off revenue and leading to its demise.

KREM 2 tried several times to reach Mr. Allen, but could not. A person at the Federal Trade Commission tells KREM 2 News they are looking into the actions of these former Apply 2 Save workers. According to former employees, at least two similar loan modification companies have been started by ex-Apply 2 Save workers in North Idaho. Paulsen added he is very concerned about the customers that were left hanging when his company closed down, and while he says there were no complaints until late summer, he says he has received threats from dissatisfied customers.
