COLVILLE, Wash. -- Eastern Washington’s last drive-in movie theater in Colville will close in 2013.
Auto Vue Drive-in has been in business since 1953.
Owner Steve Wisner said the drive-in needs a new $82,000 digital projection system to replace the 35mm projector he uses now.
Wisner said the film used for his current projector will no longer be produced at the end of 2013.
The drive-in would also need a new giant screen that costs almost $100,000. He said financially, it just makes sense to close it down.
People in the community have offered their help fundraising to save the drive-in, but Wisner plans to knock it down and farm the land instead.
The drive-in’s last season will be May through Labor Day 2013.
