EUGENE, Ore. -- The Oregon Ducks and the Oregon State Beavers met Thursday night in the 113th Civil War. The stakes have never been higher. The victor heads to the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day to play Ohio State.

Seventh-ranked Oregon has not been to the Rose Bowl since 1995, while No. 13 Oregon State hasn't been since 1965.

It is the first time in the history of the series that the winner of the game will go to Pasadena for the New Year's Day game, without help from other teams.

Key matchup

Jeremiah Masoli vs. the Oregon State defense. Masoli got off to a rough start this season with an ineffective performance in the season-opening loss to Boise State. Since then, he's excelled and has even started to get Heisman notice. The junior has passed for 14 touchdowns with four interceptions and run for 12 more scores. Oregon State's defense could pose problems for the Ducks, especially when it comes to the run. The Beavers' rushing D is ranked 13th in the nation, allowing 98.45 yards per game.
