SPOKANE, Wash.--Tuesday’s snow is a reminder for many to change out to their studded tires.

Surveillance video caught by DeLeon’s Mexican Restaurant on Francis shows a tire flying off of a mini van on Monday afternoon.

The tire rolled nearly 50 yards and slammed right into another mini van in the DeLeon’s parking lot. Customers walking by could not believe what they saw. One guy came in to let the managers know a tire hit a vehicle in the parking lot.

The vehicle belongs to a DeLeon’s employee. The driver of the runaway tire admitted to her that he had put the studded tires on himself.

“She was actually pretty upset because the people didn't have insurance and she knew it was going to cost her pretty close to a thousand dollars to fix,” said manager Sergio DeLeon.

Changing your tires costs anywhere from $40 to $60 in Spokane. That cost can go up if you have rims.

The driver with the runaway tire was cited for driving without insurance and is liable for the damage to the mini van.

“Someone could have been walking by on the sidewalk or another car could’ve been driving by and it could have done a lot of damage,” said DeLeon.
