SPOKANE, Wash. -- Spokane Public School District leaders approved full-day kindergarten during a meeting Wednesday night. Board members unanimously approved the decision.
All-day kindergarten will start in the fall of 2013 at all 34 elementary schools in Spokane. Only 15 schools previously offered full-day kindergarten.
District leaders said the switch requires about $3.9 million which is more than twice the available funding. The Spokane district will have to hire 25 teachers plus additional staff, such as counselors.
