SPOKANE, Wash. -- According to city crime maps of north Spokane, 17% of the total crime in north Spokane are car thefts.

Police say only a handful of cars were stolen in the area this week but crime maps show 150 thefts in the past year.

Today, a theft and shooting in the area has neighbors shaken up.

"That's really frightening. That does make you think, this happened less than a block from my house," said Spokane resident, Bo Snider.

The theft rate in north Spokane compared to other neighborhoods is much higher. Certain intersections of Ligerwood, Hillyard, downtown and the south hill were all lower than north Spokane.

People in the area believe property crimes seem to be the main issue there.
