SPOKANE-- The count is on to Bloomsday, one of the biggest in foot races in the world coming up on Spokane.
Athletes are getting a running start this weekend.
Runners from across Spokane have 50 days to train for the annual Bloomsday race. There are free organized training groups, the first one starts Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at Spokane Falls Community College.
Runners can meet at the college’s gym each Saturday through the end of April.
Volunteers will also be on hand with water and first aid for anyone that needs it.
Diane Pickens is leading the clinics and says she expects 500 people to show up.
This Saturday’s run is only a mile, but each week the length will increase to prepare for the more than seven mile race.
