SPOKANE, Wash.—Bloomsday brought thousands of runners and thousands of shoes to Downtown Spokane streets on Sunday.

As KREM 2 News found out, your Bloomsday shoe could say a lot about your personality.

Some could say Ron Ilg and his girlfriend Jennifer do not mind waiting until the last minute.

“They were actually the only shoes available,” said Ilg.

A Bloomsday shoe could signal caution.

“I don't know if they'll get me a better time but they'll keep me safe...they'll see me way in advance,” said runner Robert Riddle.

A shoe could even signal contentment.

“It's a happy color...it makes you run happy,” said participant Fran Klappenbach.

One shoe on the Bloomsday course sent the signal of longevity.

“Just started running one Bloomsday… I wear them one day a year. They're almost sawdust there's almost nothing left of them,” said participant Mike McKenna.

Spokane native McKenna has ran in the same shoes for 38 years. McKenna and his sneakers had run in every Bloomsday since it started.

“My feet hurt for a couple of days but that's about it,” said McKenna.

McKenna said his brother gave him the shoes.

“And they just go in the closet and stay until the next Bloomsday,” said McKenna.

The shoes get another seven miles of seasoning with each passing Bloomsday.
