BENEWAH COUNTY-- Rising water along the St. Joe River kept the Benewah County Humane Society on alert.

They Human Society said that they are ready at a moment’s notice, to load the animals up and take them to higher ground.

The shelter is located on Robinson Lane. There were a few puddles but no major flooding Thursday. Workers at Hopes Haven were getting the animals ready in case the waters got any higher.

Debbie Rimel with the Hope Haven Humane Society said if the river were to rise anymore, she would be ready to take the animals up to safer ground.

The floods back in 1996 and '97 submerged the building.

Their plan is in place. Trucks and trailers would be at the building at a moments notice. Pellets and animals would be loaded to the fairgrounds.
