SPOKANE, Wash. -- During non-stop coverage of a SWAT standoff at a Pawn Shop KREM 2 News received an unusual call.

The suspect used another person to call the KREM 2 newsroom.

KREM 2’s assignment manager answered the phone and learned that it was the suspect on the phone. The newsroom immediately contacted police.

Authorities asked the assignment manager to keep him on the phone and keep him calm.

The suspect was making threats and telling KREM 2 News his demands.

Hostage negotiators eventually told KREM 2 News to hang up after 30 minutes. The suspect then called back a few minutes later.

Police then gave KREM 2 News a phone number for the suspect to call negotiators and the suspect agreed. Fifteen minutes later police made the arrest.

KREM 2 News did not call the suspect.

If you find yourself in a similar situation, police ask that you call them immediately so they can handle it.
