A man suspected of walking through a Tacoma neighborhood and firing shots at homes is holed up inside his residence, the Pierce County Sheriff's Office says.

The Sheriff's Department had responded to a dozen 911 calls about a man walking in the 5800 block of 13th St. Ct. NE in the Browns Point area firing shots at residences.

Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said the suspect was seen pointing guns at people and firing randomly. Several homes were hit.

The man, whom Troyer says was identified by neighbors, is believed to have four high power assault weapons.

Troyer said the man has mental health issues and may have been drinking today.

Many people have been evacuated from their homes. Residents that remain at home are being asked to stay inside their homes.

It's not known if anyone has been injured.

A SWAT team is en route.
