SPOKANE— Police have located the driver who hit multiple cars, a pedestrian and a light pole, and proceeded to flee the scene on Thursday afternoon
The wreck occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Mission and Greene in Northeast Spokane.
Christopher Smith, 53, was reportedly traveling northbound on Greene in his SUV when he collided with a Saturn, hit a light pole, struck the pedestrian, and then hit a Pontiac traveling westbound on Mission, according to Spokane police. After all the wrecks, Smith fled from the scene on foot.
The SUV reportedly dragged the pedestrian for a short while.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and treated for serious injuries, possibly a broken leg, but is in stable condition. The driver of the green Saturn and the silver Pontiac suffered minor injuries.
The intersection was blocked and traffic lights were out of service.
Police located Smith in a Deer Park home, where he was arrested. He was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Vehicular Assault (a class B felony) along injury hit and run.
An employee at a nearby shop says he saw an SUV coming off the Greene Street Bridge apparently try to get around traffic and drive up onto the sidewalk.
