SPOKANE -- The Monroe Street Bridge closed for construction on Monday forcing drivers to take alternate routes across the Spokane River.

KREM 2 News' Breanna Roy tested out three of the routes to see how quickly she could travel from Indiana and Monroe to Monroe and Sprague. She traveled each route three times and took the average times from each one.

  • The Maple Street Bridge was the longest route at 2.8 miles. It proved to take the longest to travel at an average of nearly ten minutes and 22 seconds.
  • The Washington Street Bridge was two miles long and the average time to arrive at the destination was only seven minutes and 36 seconds.
  • The Division Street Bridge was out of the way and the route was 2.6 miles. But it only took eight minutes and 47 seconds to arrive at the destination.

Overall the Washington Street Bridge was the fastest alternative to travel south across the Spokane River.

The busiest time to travel appeared to be 15 minutes before the top of the hour depending on the traffic lights.
