Hay fire stops U.S. 95 traffic near Sandpoint

BONNER COUNTY,  Idaho-- A vehicle fire north of Sandpoint blocked both directions of U.S. 95 Friday afternoon. Idaho State Police responded to the scene to direct traffic near Elmira. 

Witnesses tell KREM 2 News that a truck carrying hay caught fire. The female driver and her two daughters escaped uninjured.

Troopers credit nearby drivers with controlling the flames. Witnesses said drivers rushed to the scene with fire extinguishers.

Firefighters arrived and stopped the flames from spreading to nearby brush.
