(SPOKANE, Wash.) --  Part of Hwy. 206 to Mt. Spokane is down to one lane Monday as water has washed away the base under the road, about four miles from Mt. Spokane State Park.

The Dept. of Transportation estimates the eastbound lane will reopen by 2:00 Monday afternoon.

KREM 2 Reporter Jordan Longacre says rising water from a creek next to the road eroded a stretch about ten feet long by two feet wide.  The asphalt held, but would have collapsed with any significant weight on it.

DOT crews are moving a guardrail and replacing the ground under the highway.

The wet weather and wind also brought down several trees in the area.
