ATHOL, IDAHO-- Construction on US-95 near Athol continued Thursday with the blasting of Granite Knob.

Crews planted explosives and heavy machines stripped the rock hill right next to old us 95.

Prep work started hours before the blast. Crews told us the area is 120 feet wide, 40 feet tall and 400-500 feet long. The area is not something you can pick apart with mechanical means; it has to be blasted.

Crews blasted away enough of the mountain that heavy machines could finish the job,

Eventually a new chunk of US-95 will run through where Granite Knob once stood.
