NEAR COEUR D’ALENE--U.S. 95 re-opened Thursday north of Coeur d'Alene as a four lane roadway.
The six mile stretch received a complete overhaul for about a year and a half.
The changes are meant to make the roadway safer. Now cars are on a four lane road instead of two and there’s a median in between to help reduce crashes.
Fences will also go up on the side of the road to help keep wildlife off the highway.
Another big part of the project is the overpass at Silverwood Theme Park. That will get cars onto the highway at highway speeds instead of from a complete stop like before.
