SPOKANE, Wash. -- Five people were taken to the hospital following a 2-car alcohol-related wreck on Highway 291 just north of Spokane City limits.
It happened around 11:15 p.m. on New Year’s Eve near Nine Mile Road and Lowell Avenue.
Washington State Patrol said 20-year-old Megan Rainey was driving east on Seven Mile Road approaching SR 291 when she ran a stop sign and hit another vehicle traveling on SR 291.
Rainey -- along with a passenger in her car -- and three people in the other car were transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.
Two additional passengers in Rainey’s car were not hurt.
Troopers said Rainey was intoxicated and will be charged with DUI and Vehicular Assault.
45-year-old Kevin Brown, 41-year-old Sonna Brown, 15-year-old Joshua Brown, and 19-year-old Andrew Sumner were hurt.
