SPOKANE--The Washington Department of Transportation reached a major milestone this week when a new stretch of the North Spokane Freeway opened.  The road not only saves valuable time, but gas as well.

Drivers can now head from Francis north past Wandermere to Highway 395 without hitting any traffic lights.

KREM2 compared drive times between I-90 and just north of the new 395 interchange at Wandermere.

First we headed north on Freya to Market through Hillyard.  At Francis we turned east to get onto the North Spokane Corridor.  We exited at Hatch Road on 395.  The drive time was 19 minutes and 20 second with a total of 10 traffic lights the entire distance.

On the trip north from I-90 using Division Street, we hit 26 traffic lights and the trip took almost 10 minutes longer.
