SPOKANE COUNTY -- The suspected driver in a head-on collision on Bigelow Gulch Road has been arrested for vehicular assault.
Jeremy Dreher, 41, was arrested at the hospital on Wednesday for vehicular assault.
On Tuesday evening, around 5:45 p.m., authorities received a call from a driver who said a car was weaving in and out of traffic headed westbound on Bigelow Gulch Road.
A short time later, officials received another call from the same witness who said the driver crossed the center line and crashed into a car headed eastbound on Bigelow Gulch Road.
Spokane County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the two-vehicle head-on collision on Bigelow Gulch and Weile Road. Deputies arrived on scene to find a male subject, identified as 41 year old Jeremy Dreher, pinned behind the steering wheel in his vehicle.
According to witnesses, Dreher was traveling westbound on Bigelow Gulch from Argonne. Witnesses said Dreher was driving reckless, completely driving across the eastbound lanes of travel and at one point onto the shoulder on the south side of Bigelow Gulch. One witness said they were going to report Dreher to 911 as a possible intoxicated driver right before he struck an eastbound vehicle on Bigelow Gulch head-on.
Due to the severity of injuries to Dreher, Collision Investigators responded to the scene to investigate the collision.
Based on evidence at the scene and observations from responding deputies, Dreher was placed under arrest at a local hospital for Vehicular Assault. A blood sample from Dreher was obtained and charges are expected to be forwarded to the prosecutor's office once the results are returned from the Washington State Crime Lab. As of Wednesday Dreher was listed in critical condition.
Deputies said Dreher was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center in critical condition Tuesday evening. The female driver of the other car was also transported to Sacred Heart with serious injuries. She was released Wednesday with a broken ankle.
