SPOKANE-- It has been almost six months since the North-South Freeway opened in North Spokane, and many drivers still can't pinpoint exactly where to get on it.
When it first opened, KREM 2 News found people struggling to find it. Now, the freeway is seeing more regular cars on it, but it is still pretty deserted at times.
The North-South Freeway goes from Farwell to Freya in North Spokane. Eventually the freeway will connect to I-90 at about Freya, but for now the freeway doesn’t really go to anything, and for some people, they still don’t even know how to get on it.
The three miles of completed road doesn’t intersect another major highway. And it also doesn’t have any off-ramps.
The Washington State Department of Transportation says about 4,000 cars use the freeway each day. That’s about 166 an hour and it’s getting even busier.
Even police say it’s not as busy as it could be. WSP can’t give a number on how many tickets have been issued on the freeway, but they say they do patrol it.
The freeway is still years, maybe even decades away, from having that section connect to I-90, but the north portion that connects to Highway 2 should be open in a year.
